Freeride Juniors by DAKINE kicks off in Chamonix with a jaw-dropping level of riding.
Watch out pros, for the kids are coming strong! The first event of the 2.012 FWT Juniors by DAKINE took place in Chamonix on 21st and 22nd of january. La Flegere was the setting for a competition that surprised the judges from the very beggining, with names like Loic Burry, Forrest Schorderet and Luke Smith featuring a clean, technical riding that many pro riders would be proud of. They had obviously taken good notes from the clinic and workshop that freeride legend Seb Michaud gave the previous day! Weather conditions were playful and, although the spot woke up with 70 cms of fresh powder, the fog set in and the competition had to be stopped. Yet, the participants had a great time and, given what we've seen up in the slopes of Chamonix, we just cannot wait for the Fieberbrunn and Verbier events next 10th and 24th march! DAKINE rider Bobby Brown made it to the top of the Ski Big Air podium, going down in the Winter X-Games history as the only skier to win two Big Air gold medals. But the sensation of that chilly competition night was undoubtedly rookie prodigy - and also DAKINE rider - Kai Mahler, who made his way up to the silver position with a switch double misty 1440 and an almost landed switch double misty 1620 - which would have been the first in competition. At only 16, he arrived at the X-Games preceded by his standout results in big air competitions all over Europe last fall and has raised big expectations for his performance at the Slopestyle competition at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. Element "Make It Count" International Contest Series by DAKINE 2.012 edition is on now!
Tighten your trucks because the Element "Make It Count" International Contest Series will begin on march 3rd in Copenhagen and will spend the next three months roaming European cities seeking for new talents that will bring progression to skateboarding. Check out the events calendar to find the nearest spot to you amongst the 24 stops programmed. The winners of each regional event will get a paid trip to Berlin where the EU Finals will be held on july 7th. The European winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to join fellow winners from around the globe at the Element YMCA Camp in California for the chance to compete for Element Sponsorship, followed by a day at The Berrics with the Element team in august 2012.

Freestyle goddess Bruna Kajiya is on a roll!! After winning the second stop of the national Brazilian Tour, Bruna went on to win the Single and Double Eliminations to win the PKRA tour event in her home country.

The event was held in the ever windy bay at Barra do Cunhau where all the PKRA riders travelled to fight it out. Bruna won against Joanna Litwin in both rounds.

Congrats Bruna! The next PKRA stop is in New Caledonia before the finals in Australia.

I had a siccccccccccckkkkkkkkkk ride at boat nationals and I came 1st I am so stoked with my result ;~).  Nationals were being held at Quayside this year and the weather was really hot so the spectators got to lie in the sun whilst we did all the hard work!  Groms were up last which felt really weird because my category is normally first.  I qualified first in the opening round so I got to go last in the finals.  My run went really well but unfortunately I crashed both of my heelside backrolls, but I’m still pleased I went for them. Luckily I’d already done enough and when the podiums were announced I found out I’d come first and I felt so happy.

My friend Dylan rode with me and he did amazing in his first big competition, he busted out some blind ollie 180s and 180s off the wake, I was cheering him on really loudly.  Dylan got 2nd place and I am really happy for him.  The others in groms drove all the way from Loch Lomond to compete, so glad I didn’t have to sit in a car that long.

All the junior men really impressed me with massive tricks .  Jorge Gill won that group, I’d love to be as good as him one day, which means I’ll have to practice and practice for years.  The other new nationals champions were Tom D’Cruze, Megzy Barker and Laura Christian.

On Saturday was the 3rd stop of the AOD boat tour and I came 1st again. That’s 3 out 3 so far but even better I stuck my heelside backroll which I’d missed landing at nationals. The day was awesome and i was really doing a competition at my home lake.  Edgeriders was sponsoring it too with some prizes and it was really cool to have both my sponsors involved.  Check out the picture though, the rain was ridiculous couldn’t actually see anything!  So pleased with my run though, only one more AOD competition left and the season will be over. Determined to get a few new tricks learnt before it all finishes though
